DL Design Studio were commissioned in 2018 to design a new build student accommodation scheme at the site of a fire damaged bungalow. The site is superbly located for The University of Nottingham and all public transport links.
We designed the building to create a transitional response between the residential elements along the street and the large transport junction of University Boulevard and the tram station. It nestles neatly within the trees and has views across the University sports fields. Internally it provides the students with great living spaces, with large windows providing an abundance of natural light, open and double width corridor spaces and duplex living.
Completing in time for the 2020 student intake was no mean feat, but a close daily liaison between contractor, DL Design Studio and client meant a managed and collaborative approach helped navigate the project safely through the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.
DL Design Studio’s involvement was design lead throughout all RIBA stages and included the Contract Administration on the JCT Intermediate form of contract.
